Thanksgiving. Should I lie about being a vegetarian?
I’m going to go over to my cousin’s house for Thanksgiving and I’m not sure what I should do about eating because I’m not sure how if the meal is going to be focused on meat or vegetables.
If I was going to a friend’s house it would be easier but family is different. Should I say that I’m not very hungry and risk seeming too picky or rude? Or should I just say that I don’t like meat very much? There aren’t any vegetarians in my family, immediate or otherwise. My sisters don’t even know that I don’t eat meat. One even offered me chicken today.
Of course, I don’t want them to go out of their way to make something that I can eat. I just need an explanation, just in case.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Thanksgiving is hard for us vegetarians if our families aren’t supportive! I think you should bring something to eat just in case, some potatoes or a pie or something. But if they insist on making something for you, don’t worry about that, it’s not killing them to make a vegetarian dish, and you are family so yeah. My in-laws sometimes make vegetarian food when I’m over which is really cool. It’s up to you what you tell them, and I hope they aren’t too confrontational if you tell them you don’t eat any meat. Good luck!
