There are vegetarian restaurants literally everywhere. I only vegan for two years but have never had trouble finding a place. I use to live in Orange County and I found to have more vegan places anywhere I've lived. My favorites are the native foods, the Wheel of Life (which is a super new agey one), and the Veggie Grill. They are incredible, believe me. San Francisco also has plenty of options Spliters Lane (incredible vegetarian pizza) at the Millennium, which is a 5-sided super-star, vegan place. But wherever you live you can find out by simply vegguide.org or through Google, always surprising nearby, especially in more urban areas, which is funny because most people think only hippies are vegan.
